Ghostface Returns: Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley Confirmed for Scream 7

Exciting News for Scream Fans: Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley Join Scream 7

In a thrilling development for horror aficionados, Matthew Lillard, famous for his role as Stu Macher in the original Scream, is set to return for Scream 7. This news comes hot on the heels of the announcement that Scream 3 star Scott Foley will also be joining the cast.

Lillard has been vocal about his belief that Stu could still be alive, fueling speculation about his role in the upcoming film. An intriguing Instagram post from Lillard tonight hints that Stu might indeed survive his infamous demise from the first film, where he was stabbed and crushed by a TV set.

While we’re not sure if Lillard will reprise Stu or if the film is taking a meta-approach reminiscent of Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, the possibilities are endless. Could we see actors playing themselves or perhaps new characters intertwined with the legacy of Ghostface?

Meanwhile, Scott Foley’s character Roman Bridger from Scream 3 was thought to be dead, adding another layer of mystery to their involvement.

Scream 7 is slated for release on February 27, 2026, with Neve Campbell returning as Sidney Prescott and Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers. They’ll be joined by returning actors Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown.

New faces in the franchise include Celeste O’Connor, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Asa Germann, Anna Camp, Isabel May, Mark Consuelos, and Joel McHale, who will portray Sidney’s husband, Mark Evans.

Adding to the excitement, original Scream writer Kevin Williamson steps into the director’s chair for this installment.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to speculate on how these beloved characters might return to Woodsboro.
